The Ridge
On
Wednesday, Aug. 12th I was awake shortly after 6 and did my morning
stretches in bed. I knew Donna had stirred on the other side of the bed so I wasn’t
afraid of waking her up. At 6:20 we both got up and Donna said she heard Aj and
Gayle upstairs moving around. The plan was to go for our walk at 6:30-ish.
Headed out in the dawn's early light.
It was 12C/55F and with light jackets or long sleeves at least, we headed down the lane to the busy Hwy #6. Following Gayle’s usual route, we turned north and walked to the first country road which is 4B.
This is a very neat little farm property
It was hard packed gravel and a
lovely road to walk on. At just over the 1 mile/1.75 km marker, Donna and I
turned back and the other two went on to the next road. It felt good to get out
and to walk with my sisters.
Turning around point We all loved this big tree so stopped to take a picture
I got a kick out of our shadows copying us!We stopped for a selfie along the way home
It was meant to be, I found an old rusty horseshoe on the post
where I set the camera
Back inside, Donna and I made our coffee and relaxed while waiting for the other two. You have probably noticed that I finished yesterday’s blog post. At 8:45 we welcomed our oldest sibling, Cathy, to the Fest and she arrived just in time for Donna’s yoga class on the back deck.
Cathy arrives so another person to share driving now |
I, as a rule, don’t do yoga. For some
people, they love it, look forward to it and really get a lot out of it. For
me, there are just a few of the stretches that I can say I ‘really’ enjoy. I do
it with the girls, just so we’re doing something together.
Our teacher and I won't even begin to name the post
Gayle in a nice pose This is one stretch I like |
Then we
ate from the food fare we ate from yesterday, diffusing the original plan
(Jell-o) of going down the road to Kettle’s for breakfast. After dishes, we went
downstairs and delved into the 6 bags of exchange clothes. We had fun. To be
fair, Donna held them up one at a time to see who was interested. We are all
different in size, either by waist, height or width (haha) so there weren’t too
many battles over the same thing. We get along and shared pretty equally.
Clothing exchange time
We put the clothes in groups of type and Donna held them up and
told us the sizes
this was fun and we all gave opinions as others tried things on
When we each had a nice bundle, the remainder will be left for Gayle to drop at Value Village unless we do it tomorrow. Then it was time to get dressed for another trip to Owen Sound. This time, we were meeting at Wendy’s to work on our new craft.
Our packages and chairs await |
Each of us chose something from the Sidewalk classes from the Art Gallery, previous to getting together and Wendy had picked our individual kits up for us. We were all set up in her garage and it felt just like a true craft room.
Getting ready and pouring wine and drinks
I chose to do a copper etching kit, something that when finished, I could hang on a wall in the Bunky. Others did mosaic pictures or sgraffiti mugs. I felt very fumbly to start but with Wendy’s help to get going, soon finished mine.
I began with a small copper plate with raised heart
So, I drew some Ridge related ideas to get an idea
That was the hardest part for me!
Wendy
is a graphic artist so very talented in many things. Her input is invaluable to
me for stuff like this and she is very patient with my silly questions. We finished for ttoday with just a few things left to do
on our projects. The pottery mugs and my etching need to go to the gallery for
firing and the final touches.
It is very small but I'm hoping it turns out okay
Everyone created beautiful pieces |
Waiting until it was time to leave for our supper reservation at Mudtown Station Brewery and Restaurant , we sat in Wendy’s back yard and just relaxed. That was the perfect time for a photo moment.
She says she doesn't have a green thumb but I beg to differ
But her small back yard oasis is beautiful!Sorry Gayle for the leaf but otherwise a lovely picture
Supper here is always a delight. It is an unusual menu but we’ve been here 3 times previous to today and will come back every year, if possible. I ordered a Dejong Acres Chicken Kebab with Turkish Flatbread, Tahini Yogourt Sauce, Beet Root Salad, Za’atar and Tomato. Now doesn’t that sound great? Let me tell you, it was absolutely wonderful! For the second night in a row, I cleaned my plate off. Because I wasn’t driving, I treated myself to a rum and Coke and thought of Bill. 😊
Each meal plate was served to perfection and although
this doesn't look like a lot, it was very filling
the chicken kabob is under the onions and greenery
The table
wasn’t required for other customers so we just stayed where we were and
chatted. Another beautiful evening and we didn’t leave until 8:30. Back home at
Gayle’s, I texted Bill just to touch base and send my ♥♥ to him. Good night, sweetie. I wrote on my blog for today’s events in
between playing our Progressive Scrabble game. We all took turns taking our
blood pressure since Gayle had the machine and we are all as healthy as horses,
in that regard.
Wendy ordered the sampler plate with fajita and flat bread
This was huge and a perfect way to try new thiings
I headed
down to bed around 10:30 or soon after and felt that it was another great, busy
day. I learned a new craft and even think in the future that I would like to
try to do a mosaic. I hope you’ve had a good day!
Wendy blinked but I had to get a photo of us at Mudtown
Good night!
Thank you
for your visit. Your comments are always welcome.
Ohhh....so much fun. I LOVE your copper etching of the turtle! It is so you! The food looks amazing. Your sister's backyard "garden" is gorgeous. More than I would want to take care of, but one I would enjoy sitting outside in. Maybe someday my thumb will turn green! LOL! FYI - I'm not a big yoga fan either, but I'm sure it would do me some good if I'd stick with it. Not likely to happen though.
ReplyDeleteAh thank you. I couldn't decide what to draw on the copper but it came together not too badly.
DeleteThe food is an added bonus and no cooking and no dishes in the evening!
Good, I'm not the only NON yoga gal. :)
That brings back memories. I used to do big copper plates of horses and cattle. It's a fun craft! I love your heart. Looks like a lot of fun to me, although I probably would have brought home WAY too many clothes. It's so nice you all can get together.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the copper etching once I got started and once I see how it turns out, I will decide if I ever do it again.
DeleteWAY too many clothes? What is that anyway? haha
What a beautiful morning walk! Sounds like you all had a great day and I love your copper etching :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you, the walk is a nice change of scenery and to have company is a treat. :)
DeleteLove the heart! Love the monrning walk with you all. Wendy's back yard is absolutely beautiful! Look at all those clothes, hopefully everybody came home with "new" clothes to enjoy. So nice that you all get together like you do, I need to do it more often with my two sisters. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you. I loved the walk too and will feel lost when I'm back on my own. LOL
DeleteWendy's yard is gorgeous. She buys mostly annual bloomers so spends more on ones she knows that do well. Dragonwing Begonias for one.
It is great that we can still get together after 30 years!
What a wonderful day with your sisters! A little exercise, a little playing with crafts, some games, good food and good company. Perfect!
ReplyDeleteTake care and stay well!
Nice that you are all enjoying your time together.
ReplyDeleteBe Safe and Enjoy!
It's about time.
The copper etching came out great, I love it. Beautiful yard, beautiful food, beautiful sisters!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you're having fun!
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to have such a good time with your sisters. Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
