How Resourceful are We? How Fortunate? Very!

Showalter RV

On Monday, Oct. 23 we woke up on the couch bed. Huh? Well, Bill is wearing a shirt that Bridgette and Chris gave him for his 70th birthday and this is what it says. ‘When Life Throws you a Curve, Lean into it’.

Bill's shirt says it all.
PS, a silhouette of Jazz is on the back.

That’s what we’re doing. 😊 Gibbs can’t understand what’s going on, we had to lift him on the low bed, he kept sitting on the step looking up at where the bed is/should be.

A clear walk to Walmart, first thing.

Through a dirty window, the sun rises.

The bed is not comfortable, God bless our friends and family who have slept on it for more than one night. LOL We did sleep relatively well though after Bill walked with me in to Walmart at 10:30 to use the facilities. Kind of feeling a bit ‘homeless’ now! 😊 After our supper, I went to the Dollar Tree and picked up 2 toothbrushes, a tube of toothpaste and 2 gender appropriate deodorants. Ours are in the unreachable bathroom with the toilet!

There were some frosty fields out there this morning.
Looks like snow but it is just Jack Frost's handiwork.

Bill and Gibbs were up at 6:30 but I didn’t want to get up until closer to 7 so I could run across the lot to the store when it opened. Bill put my mind at ease and brought in the red pail. It came in handy and saved me having to wash up before visiting the store washroom. We had some breakfast and then I went in to Walmart for a comb for each of us and a new cheap top. Aah, that felt so much better! There was a Goodwill store, a nice one by the looks of it, beside the Dollar Tree but I wasn’t in the mood last night.

We had to take a 'gps' detour when we
arrived at this sign on the other end of IN-5.
This is where we came out.

A cute little town on our route today.
South Whitley

Love these old water towers.

We were on the road at 8, driving BACK towards Elkhart/Howe/Nappanee. Before I go further, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone for your wishes and concerns. Especially to those of you, you know who you are, that were able to offer suggestions of rv dealers who may be able to help. Many rvs are manufactured in these areas so we should be in good hands and the hour and a half return trip should not be fruitless. You can read Bill’s blog with the details of his phone calls regarding where we ended up.

Lots of curvy 2-lane roads and little traffic.
We enjoyed the drive even though we were headed
easterly!

I almost missed this guy.
He's so tall!

It's a beautiful drive, on some state highways and a few ‘questionable’ country roads. Each one of those turning into a positive route. It was a cool start to the day again, 2.5C/37F and we noticed quite a few areas with frost on the pumpkins/grass/windshields. By 10:15, we had arrived at Showalter RV Centre in Nappanee, Indiana – in the opposite direction. 😊 But, we’re here and we have a work order/ticket from Norco to send a mobile unit for repair. Fingers crossed.

Here we are at an rv dealers.
We are in a spot on site with hydro and water hookup.

They have a few rv spots for us to park and hook up to power so that is all we could hope for right now. I walked into the building to take care of business after taking Gibbs out for his. It’s mostly gravel or pavement so he led me to where there was grass. He’ll have to get over that by the time we get to Quartzsite! Bill made us each a thermos of coffee this morning and we hadn’t opened them yet. Now was a good time.

Our site for 2 or 3 nights.

Thank you Tom and Deb for this recommendation.

We had a surprising text from our friends, Roland and Lori, this morning that their rv was in a shop in Elkhart, IN for some finishing ‘touches’. Why not meet since we were only 40 minutes apart? We always love seeing these guys and, often, it turns out to be happenstance. They were killing time before they could get into a motel so popped in before 1 for a great catch up visit. Having just recently lost their sweet little Schatzi, Gibbs tried to give them lots of comforting kisses.

Lori and Roland - and Gibbs

We’d decided to treat ourselves tonight, since we’ll be here for at least 2, maybe 3 evenings. The U.S.6 Diner is just down E. Market St., where we are, and that is where we went. It was quaint, not fancy, with one young waitress running the show. The food was great and prices were reasonable. Gotta love that! 😊 We were back home a few minutes after 7.

Shrimp, roasted potatoes and chicken rice soup
All delicious!

What a lovely warm evening! 61F/16C with an overnight low of 51F/10C. We are feeling much better tonight about the whole slide out thing, knowing that we aren’t left out to dry. Things should be taken care of by Wednesday.

Off in the distance, the sun leaves behind a
pink sky.

Good night Mr. Moon!

Thank you for all your comments and support!

  2. we love our visits with the three of you. Gibbs was very warm and welcoming with loss of our baby girl Schatzi, he certainly helped fill the void of our companion. See you south whenever that may be.

  4. A good day, while the road may have been in the wrong direction, the results are certainly pointing in the right one. Stay safe and warm. Good luck.

  6. So glad it looks like things are working out! We had an issue with our bedroom slide years ago but fortunately hubby was able to get it out and Camping World in Quartzite sent someone out to the desert to fix it and it was all covered under our extended warranty. Fingers crossed it doesn't happen again but you just always know that things can go wrong with slides :-( But I never thought of not being able to get to our toothbrushes, etc. Fortunately for us I keep a cosmetic bag for travelling in one of our suitcases that we keep in the basement so we have all the necessities ... but honestly I never would have thought about that until you mentioned it in your blog.

I really hope you are back on the road soon and the rest of the winter goes without a hitch!

    1. Thanks for that tip! I could easily find a spot for a bag with some personal items too. Just never thought of this situation either. The no clothes fact is another issue. Haha shopping!!

  9. What a blessing you had friends to visit with at this particular time. While it doesn't make the situation better... spending time with good friends helps pass that waiting time!! Prayers you are on the road again very soon. It's not a bad place to be for a few days and should be pretty this time of year.

  10. Fingers crossed that the issue with the slide is resolved quickly, and you're on the way south again soon. In the meantime, I'm glad you are located in a safe place, even if Gibbs doesn't care for the gravel. :)

  12. Glad to read you found a place that could/would help. We have been to this place twice and both time drove away happy with the service. Truly hope you and Bill feel the same way. How great was that to run into friends there and have time for a visit. If you get the chance run into Martin's Grocery the chicken pot pies they sell in the deli are delicious and the Big Daddy Salsa is really good, in our opinion...lol Fingerscrossed it is a quick fix.
