The Night Before Christmas…………….Is Gibbs Happy?

Park Place RV Park

On Tuesday, Dec. 24th it was mild when we woke up – in comparison to what some of our mornings have been earlier this month. I was out the door at 7:20 for my walk. There is something refreshing about being up and out as soon as daylight begins its ascent. It is quiet, not too many vehicles on the road yet and with my music playing in one ear bud, my singing is not heard by anyone. 😊 I break the silence on occasion!

Good morning!

Back at the Suite, the boys left for their morning flights. I had a couple of morning jobs to do before I could relax for the day. When we worked regularly at our fulltime jobs, I would often try to imagine days like this. ‘What will it be like when we retire?’ I never imagined it quite like this. With us still working through the summer, parttime, even that makes these winter months feel darn special.

I have chores, if I wanted to do them today or they could wait until tomorrow. Grabbing a book whenever I felt like curling up in a chair, stretching out on the bed for a nap or just sitting in the sun, quietly, when it graced our patio. Walking Gibbs, long or short, when we felt like it. It is a pretty nice feeling and it would/will be the same when the day comes that we no longer travel. Retirement is great!

With our Christmas potluck tomorrow, I wanted to make the dessert portion of my offering this morning. It didn’t take long and the ‘no baking required’ option is what I love about this choice. Peanut Butter Butterscotch Confetti Squares. Yum. They are very sweet so once they were cooled, I cut them small and put them on my newly acquired Christmas platter. I'll try and remember a picture for tomorrow's post.😊

I know, I know! I broke my cardinal rule!!
But it's a crazy one.

The sky clouded over but it was still pretty

Then Gibbs and I went for his walk around the outside perimeter of the park. He trots along pretty good, visiting his favourite sniffing spots, lifting his leg to reclaim a territory AGAIN and then bringing me home. Bill was home soon after and he had picked up my last gift parcel from Moon Mountain mail. It happens to be his gift so I’m glad it was in a non-descript Amazon box. I did tell them it was a gift so I wasn’t concerned.

Gibbs was very good at Happy Hour,
he had his new stocking toy from Aunt Nancy.

I also vacuumed the Suite and wiped down the kitchen and bathroom cupboard fronts. All ready for Christmas! While he was outside, I wrapped it and laid it under the tree. No more room for anymore! 😊

Happy Christmas Eve Hour!
Do you think there are visions of
sugar plums dancing in their heads?

We had lunch together and then because stores are closed tomorrow, they’d better be!, Bill drove me to DG Market for milk, bread and cold meat. That will get us through until after Christmas when we’ll do a bigger shop with our friends. Bill has a bit of a head cold so took some Tylenol Cold & Sinus and/or Ivermectin before bed last night and then this morning. The latter med is new to us so we’ll play it by ear and see which he finds the most relief from.

Gibbs loves this position during H.H.
He can be with us but keep an eye on the hosts
behind us too.

He felt better this afternoon, hard to keep a good man down! I don’t feel yet that it has tried to jump to me but, hey, who knows? We share many things in this space. For supper, we had Italian meatballs (big ones) with fries. I cooked the balls in Rosy, my Air Fryer. I had just a few fries for taste and a couple of pieces of  pepper/acorn squash. Yum, everything was very good. After clean up, Bill went up to watch a movie with Gibbs. I worked on my blog, book and tv downstairs.

On our afternoon/before supper walk,
the east mountains were pink

The sky overhead and to the west
was strange but beautiful

I must say that I enjoy reading your comments on my daily posts. It is lovely to know you follow along. Sometimes, though, I must question things and was surprised to read that a commenter does not think Gibbs is happy. That was implied. It made me wonder if more of you think that we are not giving him the attention he needs? Are we not good puppy parents?

And it got even prettier as we walked

We’ve had the little guy since he was 7 weeks old and feel we know him better than anyone, so the idea that we don’t spend enough time with him, ignore him, while we do our own things, stunned both of us. He gets a LOT of attention, love, cuddles and play time. Walks, lap sits and treats. He quietly accepts the role of the house when we go out and can’t wait to get into position for his treat as we walk out the door.

More pink sky and clouds to the east

When we leave for any length of time, we put into play a very reliable sitter to check on him and take him out when necessary. He can never get enough attention from us and would probably love nothing better than to sit with us for every hour of every day. What loving pooch wouldn’t? If you are regular readers of my blog, you should know our routines, when we’re home and when we’re not. ??

Just lovely tonight

I guess it hurt and frustrated us to read the comment. Just know that we love Gibbs with all our hearts, he is not ignored, not deprived and anyone who knows and sees us with him can see that. People in the park have commented that he is the happiest little dog ever. 💖 Bill and I agree. Rant over!

Supper was good. That squash! Oh my!

This has been a wonderful day. I worked on the puzzle this afternoon and finally began making some headway. No, the border is not done so I’m going out of order. Woops! We had Happy Hour with Patty and Duncan in the gazebo, our Christmas eve drink together. 😊

Are you talking about me, Mom?

Lastly, just a saying I heard this morning on my walk, although I’ve changed it a bit: “Remember to unwrap each day slowly and carefully, taking joy in each layer, as this is a gift you will not duplicate again.”

                                                   BILL AND I

Good night!

Thank you for reading!

  3. I'm sure no one intentionally meant to hurt your feelings. Everyone knows how much you two dote over Gibbs. Only thought I had was that he has sad looking eyes in pictures of him. Just look at the picture above. Have a Merry Christmas and give Gibbs an extra hug for me.

    1. Thanks Doug. I'm sure not. Yes but you know puppies expressions are not conducive to their feelings unless trained. 🤔

  11. Back from Washington state again - have to address the Gibbs issue - that commenter was waaaaay off! Anyone who reads your blog religiously (as I do) can see how pampered and loved he is. I also read his blog and think maybe he is unhappy in his own life and deciddd to take it out on you (and he doesn’t even have a dog). Keep on doing what you all love to do - and please keep writing - I look forward to your posts daily. Merry Christmas from Washington. ❤️
