Fall Has Arrived with a Fervor!

The Ridge

On Wednesday, Sept. 22nd I woke when I heard Gibbs and Bill coming back to bed. The clock time wasn’t right, it said 5:30 and Bill confirmed that and told me that he didn’t have to work today. The rain had pelted down overnight as they said it would and apparently it was still coming down. Lightly. We rested in bed with Gibbs until 7:30 and then rose to the first day of fall.

It was a wet day from beginning to end

More indications of fall

And what a yeuchy day it was about to be. When you hear 100% chance of precipitation, you can pretty much count on the weather ‘guessers’ to be right. We had our morning coffee and tea and Gibbs and Bill had their breakfast. It was around 9 when we left Gibbs in charge and drove to Owen Sound. There were a few stops we wanted to make. 😉

If you look closely you can see 'someone'
who has learned to comfortably jump up on the bed

The rain was minimal but enough to keep the wipers going on the drive there. Bill tried Peavy Mart (used to be TSC) first and lucked out with some new work boots. His have lasted as long as they’re going to and the sale price was right. We stopped in at the surplus store Deals but other than a universal remote control for my Bunky tv, we found nothing we wanted or needed. Bill drove across town to the east and I ran in to Dollarama for some Modge Podge or whatever you call it. I also picked up a gift bag and wrapping paper.

While this went on outside, i baked inside

Lastly, Bill parked between Princess Auto, in the same strip mall, and Winners. He went one way and I visited a store I haven’t been in for a long time. It was my day because I found a pair of light-coloured jeans (like yours, Kim!) that I’ve been looking for in a while. 😊 I was happy but it was sure pouring rain when I came out. Bill and I met at the car and headed home. It was noon hour so I fried some eggs and bacon for lunch. That hit the spot, I was so hungry!

The tarts are ready for the oven

After dishes, Bill and I snoozed before going to the Hangar and I stayed inside with Gibbs. He was, of course, in and out until finally at 2:30 he settled. We sat together and I read until I decided to use this wet day baking something. A lemon merangue pie and pecan butter tarts were the fare of the day. My merangue (how do you spell that anyway?) turned out great but I’m still waiting for the lemon filling to firm up.

The rain sure affected the tv this afternoon/evening

Between the power going out from the heavy wind and rain, things finally got done. I tried to watch tv during the cooking process but the satellite wasn’t good until after 5:30. We ended up watching things we’d recorded on our PVR. For supper, I reheated the meatloaf and cooked a vegetable for each of us. It was good and to top it off, we had a tart for dessert. No keto this time, and surprisingly no regrets! We did the dishes together, as usual, and then sat and watched more recorded programs.

Gibbs and I spent a lot of time cuddling in my chair

During the course of the evening, our friend, Kenny, messaged me an early Happy Birthday. We share the same day (a number of years apart) and he beat me to the punch. I was hoping to send the message first in the morning. 😊 Also, while watching The Voice, my girlfriend from London called. Brenda wanted to touch base and send birthday greetings too. It was great chatting with her, I miss our chuckles together.

They look good and the tarts are delicious
The pie is still pretty jiggly

The rain is still steady on the roof of the Suite and the evening passed. I stumbled through my blog, trying to ignore the distractions but didn’t have any luck finishing it tonight. My head wasn’t in it, I guess. Nevertheless, it was a good day despite the crappy weather. It certainly wasn’t an outdoor day, reaching 11C/51F. I hope you didn’t get washed away.

Supper was tasty and the leftovers are gone now
good night and Happy Fall!

Thank you for your visit.

  2. So how do you make pecan butter tarts? Just the name makes my mouth water. And your supper looks good too. I don't see how anyone can top your menus for today for your birthday tomorrow, other than to provide something almost as good without your labor!
    Happy birthday!

    1. The tarts are probably similar to a regular butter tart recipe but just add chopped pecans. :) I added chopped dates too instead of raisins.
      Thanks for the wishes.

    1. Bingo!! I did good then! They never have the same thing in all sizes so I got lucky. The fact that they stretch helps too! :)

  7. Happy birthday Patsy!! Please send that rain our way! Lol! It's so dry and dusty. I am thankful for cooler weather this week in the 70s, although the forecast says back in the 90s this weekend. Ugh! The meringue lemon pie sounds wonderful, as well as the tarts. Enjoy your special day!!

  10. My favourite pie, you couldn't mail me a slice or three????😉

No rain here, but it is getting colder, the breezes sure keep things cooler than what the temperature states it is.

    God bless.

    1. Ha ha, I'd have to mail it in a cup since it was so runny! :)
Lots of rain here, flooding in many places. I should stop at the Durham dam today, it was on the news, rushing so fast.
