A Change of Scenery! 😊

Port Lambton, Ontario

On Monday, June 19th Bill had his alarm set for 6 am. We both wanted showers so he got up first and when he was done, I hopped in. After a bowl of cereal for him and some yogourt for me, we finished packing our suitcase/bag, a cooler bag, laptop bag, Gibbs’ bag and snack bag. We pulled out of the driveway, after double checking that all sheds and Suite compartments were locked, at 7:40.

What a gorgeous day for a drive!

We haven’t seen Ron and Loree since the summer of 2018?2019? (I can check on that) when they came to the Ridge with their new Lance trailer. With Bill being off, Ron called and invited us to come for an overnight visit. The drive is 3 ½ hours so we decided to go for a couple of nights to Port Lambton/Sombra to their cottage on the St. Clair River. 😊 A 3 day break was just what the doctor ordered!

A busy waterway

We arrived with no real issues on the trip, other than a detour and some construction, around 11:30 (ish). Traveling on roads we either haven't been on in a long time or ever was a treat! Ron was at the end of their driveway waving us in and what a wonderful greeting. We haven’t visited with Ron and Loree too many times but have always considered them good friends since our first meeting in Eagle’s Landing, Grove, Oklahoma what seems like many moons ago. This will be a great opportunity to get to know them better from the privacy of their lovely home.

our home for a couple of days

We were offered their Lance trailer to crash in, which was perfect for their and our privacy. Especially since they not only have Reggie, their pooch, but they have Lily, their cat. Gibbs has never seen a cat, up close, so this suited us just dandy. 😊 We had a bite to eat for lunch and then relaxed together on the deck, watching the dogs get to know each other. They are quite smitten with their new friend, and it was fun to watch them.

Enjoying the views

Dozing in our chairs in the back yard

Bill and I sat in the gravity chairs Ron had put out for us in the shade and we watched the large freighters go back and forth all afternoon. Bill dozed in the fresh air and Gibbs dozed on me beside him.

"Anything you can do, I can do better"
Monkey see monkey do.

What a lovely afternoon

Loree had made lasagna and broccoli for supper, two of my favourite things, and it was ready around 4:30. Yum, it was delicious and we had Chapman’s ice cream for dessert and then sat around telling stories and looking at pictures. 😊

Eventually, the pooches crashed at our feet

Around 7:30, the wine was hitting both of us so we said goodnight (until sunset time) and Bill and Gibbs dropped off immediately on the bed. They should both sleep well tonight, if I don’t let Bill sleep too long.

Not long after we returned to the Lance
These guys had another snooze.

Going

I slipped out to watch the sunsetting on the river, something I don’t get to see at any time during the year. I didn't see the final drop as it was hidden behind clouds. It was a wonderful day and it will be a quiet evening. Our weather here is a lovely 28C/82F and we’re enjoying every bit of it.

Going and almost gone.
Good night!

Thank you for the visit!
